Acceptance...

This is a word or theme which comes up a lot, when it comes to ADHD.

BEING ACCEPTED
First, it is a deep human need to feel accepted as a person:

  • by our significant other, by our family, by our friends and colleagues, by our community, by others in general but particularly by others who are important to ourselves
  • this also includes accepting yourself as you are

ACCEPTING YOUR ADHD DIAGNOSIS
Second, it is important to be accepting of your ADHD diagnosis.

  • This includes accepting your ADHD traits

There are lots of things to be accepting of, whether or not you welcome, agree with, or like them.

Once you begin with acceptance, you are in a good position to make the best of your life.

Here are a couple of things that might be helpful.

THE SERENITY PRAYER
God, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and wisdom to know the difference.

“Do what you can, with what you’ve got, where you are.”

~(This quote was made popular by Theodore Roosevelt; he credits it to Squire Bill Widener.)
